Anilox QC Function for AniCAM 3D was designed to meet the needs of printers wishing to carry out a quality control of their aniloxes and above all measure volume, depth, line screen, angles, opening diameter and cell walls.
The scanner is equipped with two light sources: one is directed straight down onto the surface of the material and is necessary for autofocus; the other is a special LED ring that sheds light into the cells.
The device is placed straight onto the cylinder. Then the setup and actual measurements that will determine whether the cells are clogged or damaged are performed. By connecting a simple USB flashdrive to the pc, the operator will be able to save the data and 3d imagery, store them and analyse them by means of the Anilox Management System software.
When analysing the cylinders, differences are often found that can be put down to the aniloxes being produced in different times or by manufacturers who use different measurement methods. As the cylinder gradually wears out, there is a loss in volume over time. Cleaning problems also arise more often than you would think, in spite of the quality of the equipment used.
More and more printers have realised that having their aniloxes checked every year by the manufacturer is not enough, so they have chosen to manage their aniloxes themselves and check how clean they really are by means of AniCAM.
If you consider machine costs ranging between € 300 and € 600 per hour, it is apparent that being absolutely certain of the results you are going to get before you start printing is paramount. Thanks to the off-line management of variables, printers can avoid using their printing machines as massive draft-producers. As a result, the need to adjust inks on press to achieve the density of colour required is significantly reduced, plate corrections avoided and related waste eliminated.
KEY POINTS & BENEFITS
- The ability to check whether anilox cells are clogged or damaged by means of the digital scanner AniCAM is crucial to reduce waste and costly reprints.
- The ability to check the volume of a set of anilox rolls is essential to keep ink balanced in the printing machine. When the rolls in your set all have the same volume, duration of the process, ink charge and related waste are significantly reduced.
- All measurement related information and images can be printed or exported to be used with other 3D software (like Excel or other databases) to compare records with current data. It is therefore possible to monitor volume changes of the aniloxes and their conditions.
- Having the records of the data related to your rolls clearly represented in a statistical graphic will allow you to plan the replacement or restoration of the aniloxes both financially and production-wise.
- The hardware is extremely easy to handle, so the measuring can be done in the printing room or in the anilox store, making it a very practical, versatile tool for every printing environment.
WHAT CAN BE MEASURED?
- Average cell volume
- Cell frequency in terms of LPI (Line Per Inch) or LPCM (Line Per cm)
- Opening diameter of the cell
- Wall width of the cell
- Cell depth
- Cell angle
COAXIAL AND RADIAL LIGHT
AniCAM is equipped with two light sources: Coaxial light is directed straight down onto the surface of the material and reflected back up the same path and onto the camera. It is essential for autofocus and readings.
Radial light is an 8 LED ring system designed to radiate light into the cells, which leads to optimum illumination for most accurate readings.
Coaxial light only / Coaxial + radial light
DIGITAL ARCHIVE AND REMOTE VISUALISATION
Images captured by AniCAM can be archived and sent by email. They are archived in their original format containing all measured parameters that are necessary for retrieval and evaluation. You will only have to use AniCAM Remote Viewer to see the images and analyse them from your PC in remote mode.
Thanks to the scanning microscope AniCAM 3D, Ditom is able to support customers in the evaluation of any printing problems and in the identification of the right solvent to clean anilox cells and thus achieve repeatable results in printing.
